Note: First off, for some reason I'm not feeling myself today... It's been a rough few days, so it seems like I'm skipping around here, with partial thoughts. So bear with me.

Friday night, I managed to go see Rush. I was a little bummed; I do a "secret shopper" thing on movie theaters, so I get to see a movie for free each month basically, but my theater for the month wasn't showing Rush. Damn.

Oh well. I paid my 14 dollars (the wife and the baby were with me, left Bug at her grandmothers since I heard there was nudity, etc...) and sat down, waiting for the next greatest thing ever.

Meh. I wasn't awed. I was waiting for something absolutely spectacular. That it was not. Don't get me wrong. It was a good movie. I'll probably buy it when it comes out on DVD. But it wasn't "Le Mans", or "Senna".

I understand it was an attempt to compromise between the average movie-going Joe and the avid Opponaut... but in doing so, I think, it lost that coveted "cult classic" future.

I came to see a racing movie. I saw more of a drama with a little bit of racing thrown in. Unlike "Le Mans", or "Senna", there was more time out of the cars than in the cars. I wanted a lot of badass wheel-to-wheel racing, but there were only short clips of individual races.

Albeit, I'll be honest... I was paying a lot of attention to little Ayrton—this theater wasn't very good about volume; there were points where it was loud enough to hurt my ears—and was making sure his ears were covered. I'll definitely watch it again. I'll probably bring a friend from work to go see it when he gets back from vacation. But I would have rather have seen more 4-and 6-wheel action than bedroom action in this particular movie.

On the plus side, the cars were fantastic. What racing there was was great, both the location of the cameras/CGI, and the period-correct details, like the F1 grid girls. Also, the similarities between the actors and the real people was pretty good.

I'd recommend it to others, I just wouldn't put it in the same class as "Le Mans".

Have you seen Grand Prix ? That's a really good racing movie. It's much better than Le Mans and it's amazing how much they pulled out of racing in the 1960s. Also, it's probably more your cup of tea for a good racing movie.

I saw it last night. Was a lot better than I expected. I was expecting it to be like "Driven", or to have over done effects. Like 24 shifts down one straight away, cars flipping 25 times during a crash, etc.. IMO Ron Howard did an excellent job portraying the rivalry between Lauda and Hunt, while also making them both likeable characters. I left the theatre trying to decide which approach to life is the best to take. Wild and fun, or disciplined but successful.

I have it, but have not watched it yet. "Le Mans" is probably my all-time favorite movie because of the cars. I have yet to see another Le Mans movie. I'll always take the prototypes/Group C cars over F1.

Watch Grand Prix one night. It's seriously that good. I also though Truth in 24 was good as well, despite it being Audi-centric.

Yeah, watched both Truth in 24 and Truth in 24 II... anything with Statham in it is good in my book.

Yes, it was good in that sense. I was just expecting a racing movie, not a docu-drama.

Try to watch it on bluray if you can. It's one of few movies filmed on 70mm, and dvd can't display the correct aspect ratio.
